Alex is about to Cry

19.01.2004
Rest assured this has nothing to do with Peter Brame! We're talking here about Alex's single 'Cry' which is due out on 16th February. It's a favourite from her album Introduction, with plenty of beautiful angst-ridden wailing, and the way she sings that word CRYYYY-YYY-YYY-YYYYYY, it must have brought tears to her eyes!
The Cry video (directed by Sam Brown) is now complete and Top of the Pops Saturday gave a 'World Exclusive' screening of this vid over the weekend.
It's an interesting work which has with a stark and solitary feel to it.
Alex ambles aimlessly through empty tubeway tunnels, touching wall tiles for comfort she sings her heart out on her way to catch the train. She sits alone, cautiously exchanging eye contact with her few fellow travellers. Seaside memories punctuate the sadness...
Sadly that was as much as we saw, as TOTPS saw fit to cut the video short! A bit of a shame because one of best bits of the video is when Alex is shown running hell for leather out of the tube station. Wow, she's quite an athlete! (In fact the BBC have reported that Alex was a county champion at the Javelin when she was 15)
Fortunately the full-length video is now available to the music channels. You can catch it on "The Hits", "The Box" and "Smash Hits" (The selection no. 454.)
You can also view the video online if you register (for free) with Alex's Official Website.
Everyone here at Fame Academy Watch wishes Alex the best of luck with the single when it charts in February.
