Robin Gibb on Alex, Alistair, Paris and Prayer!

Tuesday, 7 October 2003
Robin Gibb guested on Radio 2's Steve Wright show this afternoon (with Mark Goodier standing in for Steve). He described his experience as a panellist on Fame Academy as "a great buzz!", saying that he didn't see himself so much as a judge but as a "searcher for new British talent". When asked by Mark whether he thought the right person won in the end Robin agreed but added "... but... you have people like Alistair who came second, and Alistair and her (Alex) I think were two different types of artists, you couldn't say one was better than the other because they were two different types of singers... they are both good in different ways." Robin also praised Paris' singing, saying he was shocked when Paris left the Academy. Paris Campbell-Edwards reaches out.
Robin spoke of his deep sense of loss after the death of his twin brother Maurice in January this year, "it's the worst year of my life". He expressed his appreciation for the support he's received from the public which "got me through, and is still getting through, but nothing will ever make up the loss... not just a very loving brother but a great talent as well." On a lighter note Robin confirmed that he will be starting work with his brother Barry this November, they've signed up for a new album with DreamWorks which should be coming out next year. The brothers also are planning some concert dates.
Alistair Griffin singing at Covent Garden.Robin then revealed that he will soon be releasing a not so solo CD-single. It's entitled "My Lover's Prayer" and Robin will be sharing vocals on the track with none other than Fame Academy's Alistair Griffin! "Alistair's got a great voice and he's also a very good potential songwriter" enthused Robin. When Mark asked " will you write with him?", Robin politely replied "if he asked me to, yeah". Some praise indeed from the man who kept Alistair's spirits up during his Academy stint!
Mark turntabled a prerelease version of the song and we can confirm it's a nice catchy number, we've been humming it ever since! No definite release date was mentioned but it sounds like it should be before Christmas.
