| Saturday 4th October - And The Winner Is! |
| Congratulations Alex!!! | |
| They'll be whispering proudly in Cornwall tonight!...shhh...our Alex is Queen of that there Fame Academy!...keep it to yourself mind. |
| The honour is well earned. She is the only student to have been consistently saved by the public week on week. Whats more, she is an original, interesting and very natural performer with a beautiful voice that sings straight to the heart. |
 | Alistair made it a thrilling final, he put everything into his songs and like Carolynne earlier, was performing at his peak. A gracious runner-up, Alistair was the first to congratulate the shocked Alex. |
| What a close run thing, with Patrick announcing at the start of the programme that the lead position had already changed from earlier in the evening. Here's how it went... |
| The second show again starts out with each of the final students performing a cover version. Richard even has something nice to say about Alistair (well nearly)... |
| Alistair |
"Everything I Own"
(Bread)
|
| Carrie Grant: That was Fantastic,
|
| Robin Gibb: ...I loved it |
| Jonathan Ross: I really liked that a
lot and congratulations |
| David Grant: That performance he
really delivered... |
|
Richard Park: By no means perfect,
but he milked it right to the very end!...I don't think he did at all badly,
which is better than I normally give him. but it wasn't 100%...
|
|
| Alex |
"Imagine"
(John Lennon)
|
| Jonathan Ross: That was
fantastic...it's a brave person who will take that song on...as a singer it
really works for you... I don't thin |
| Robin Gibb: I loved it... |
| Carrie Grant: When we found Alex we
found a rough cut diamond...you've honed your skills. |
| David Grant: It's never actually
been my favourite John Lennon song but it is now |
|
Richard Park: That performance was
absolutely special....you've been superb...more power to your elbow, you're a
considerable artist.
|
|
|
| ...this is followed swiftly by the Alistair and Alex performing consecutive duets with Daniel Bedingfield. |
| Once they finish Patrick Kielty asks Daniel what he thinks of the standard. He replies "I think that Alex has something very unique and very special and I think that British music really needs that at the moment. Please vote Alex!". Thankfully, poor Alistair isn't too crestfallen at being overlooked by Daniel. Patrick pipes up in his defence, "I'm not an international popstar, but can I say that Alistair is quite good too!" |
| There isn't any time to brood anyway, the students next have to sing a composition of their own, after which the next round of panel verdicts follow... |
| Alistair |
"You're not the one"
(D. Bedingfield)
"Bring It On"
(Alistair Griffin)
|
| Robin: I knew you had the skill and
the ability to be a songwriter, and that proves it! |
| Jonathan Ross: That 'so' would be a
hit if that came out...how much more comfortable you look when you're singing
your own song with your guitar there...that's where your future lies... |
| Carrie Grant: ...Alistair has proved
that he's a very good songwriter... |
| David Grant: ...keep it going
fom there ...as Jonathan said ...that's where his future lies... |
| Richard Park: The acid test is
if the song gets into your brain, and I have to confess ...that got
into my brain! |
|
| Alex |
"I gotta get through this"
(D. Bedingfield)
"Maybe That's What It Takes"
(Alex Parks)
|
| Richard Park: The highest compliment
I can pay you is that song could have been written by someone like Annie
Lennox...I am truly moved...fabulous |
| Robin Gibb:
That was fabulous, terrific |
| David Grant: I know it was written
in the Academy...if that's the standard that you're writing to I think you're
going to be a significant songwriter. |
| Carrie Grant: It really grows on
you... |
| Jonathan Ross: It was great, I'm
running out of superlatives, it was wonderful...both of the songs we've just
heard...yours and Alistairs...both of them deserve to be in the company of the
other songs this evening and I can't give higher praise than that. |

| The crooning combatants have to sing for their supper once more as the voting lines are about to close. After an introduction from none other than Sir Paul McCartney, they harmonise their voices melodically to the sound of the Beatles "Let it Be". A poignant title considering the results are to be announced when they finish this. |
| Four and a half million votes have been cast, and now the moment has come. Patrick announces, the winner is "Alex!!". Alistair and Alex hug eachoter, hurriedly joined by Alex's parents and all their ex-Academy inmates. Tickertape falls all around, Alex is lifted on high, she smiles and looks almost embarrased. |
| Alistair is asked for a few words after the verdict. "I've had a lot of highs and lows and I'll miss that man Richard Park. I came here to be myself ...and I did.", and always the joker he quips "...as my grandma always said "I don't have much but I do see life!". |
| Alex, still looking flabbergasted is reminded by Patrick that she's got to sing one more time, "Do I have to?" she jokes. She has and she does. Getting up to sing Imagine once more, this time flanked by all her ex-housemates who form a wall of respect. "Thank You" she says quietly as the song ends. Cat Deeley joins her and gives her a congratulatory kiss on the cheek, joined by Patrtick. They close the show. |
| She's done it, the nation has recognised that "She's no ordinary girl"! |
