tonights show...

Patrick kicks off the show, revealling to us that there was a mistake made during the eviction show earlier this evening. During the duets the wrong phone number was put up onscreen for Peter's votes. In the interests of fairness he announced that none of the votes that were made during the duets will be counted towards tonight's result.
After a reminder of the students earlier performances, we are shown a clip of how the students got on with a group songwriting task they were given during the week.
The students were asked to collaborate and write their own original track. They didn't really take to this task however, and were finding it hard to make any real progress. In the end writing coach John McLaughlin was drafted in to save the day. With John's help the student's eventually completed the song, which they called "My Reflection", and of course they are now about to perform it live...
It turns out to be quite a catchy number, though not really up to the standard of some of their individual songwriting efforts in weeks gone by.
Peter, Carolynne and Alex (playing guitar) each do a lead vocal on the song, and Alistair (also on guitar) joins in on harmonies.
As the song ends, Carolynne belts out the lyric "Let me see my reflection!", one wonders whether the students may be unwittingly expressing their subconscious desire to see how they look from the viewer's perspective!
Another reminder of earlier performances and now we're handed over to Claudia. She is about to let us know what the bookmakers make of all this Fame Academy malarkey.
First a lady from William Hill tells us the odds they are currently giving for each student winning the show should they survive tonight.
William Hill odds (as at 27/09/2003) are : Alex 2/5 favourite, Alistair 13/8, Peter 14/1 and Carolynne 25/1
Although Alex has been the clear favourite, it appears Alistair has been catching up with her of late.
Next a chappie from Ladbrokes gives his verdict. He confirms there's been a lot of money put on Alistair in the last 2 weeks and speculates that Alistair "could well take it away from the new queen of pop".
Ladbrokes odds on (as at 27/09/2003) are : Alex 1/2 favourite, Alistair 7/4, Carolynne 12/1 and Peter 14/1
Claudia hands back to Cat and Patrick at the Academy, but it's still not results time yet!
We are shown footage of how Alex made her way to perform on Top of the Pops during the week.
First of all the 4 students visit Jo Whiley at Radio 1 to compete in an on-air singing competition. Alex sings Coldplay's "Yellow", Peter sings Coldplay's "In My Place" [I bet Coldplay are enjoying watching Fame Academy!], Carolynne's song is Pink's "Just Like A Pill" and Alistair performs Take That's "Want You Back For Good".
It is Alex who wins the listener vote, so later in the week she sings the song again in the TOTP studios. On Friday evening the students are allowed to watch the programme as it airs. Alex can't seem to believe that it is herself onscreen, "Weird!" she exclaims.
Back live at the Academy, Alex now takes the stage to sing "Yellow" again. She sings it really well and looks incredibly relaxed considering she and her pals are about to face the public vote.
At last, the results are in, with almost 1.5 million votes being cast. Patrick is about to announce the 2 students with the most votes from the public.
Alex is by now looking more than a little tense, as are all the students. After along pause Patrick reveals the first name... it's Alex! With a big sigh of relief she heads for the stairs.
Patrick continues, "The other student joining Alex in next weeks final is ...(huge pause)...Alistair!" Another big sigh from Alistair, he begins to punch his fist in the air but seems to hold himself back in deference to Peter and Carolynne, whose fate he will now have a hand in deciding. Alistair joins Alex on the Academy stairs and greets her with a hug.
Meanwhile Carolynne and Peter huddle up to support one another in the centre of the circle of fear. They are asked to give their final appeals to Alex and Ali.
Carolynne says, "Just... I haven't got anything I can say that's going to explain how I'm feeling so just do what you've got to do."
Peter shakes his head and says, "Pretty speechless to be honest... I've just given it my all, just follow your hearts."
Alex and Ali record their votes and it is Alex who steps down to reveal her choice first..."this is the hardest decision I've had to make because you're both like 'my best friend' in the Academy, on tonight's performance, Carolynne".
Now it depends on Alistair. He reveals his vote, "I don't need to tell you how hard this is, erm, just on tonight, Carolynne"
| So Carolynne has made it to the final and Peter, who had a feeling this would happen, must say goodbye. As he hugs his pals he can feel happy that he's exceeded his expectations by reaching the last 4 out of 12000 hopefulls. | |
With the final on October 4th, the three finalists have got to do their best to keep focussed in the coming days. Only one of them will walk away with that £1 million record contract and superstar lifestyle. And with many new viewers tuning in for the final shows, the competition, like the betting, seems to be getting closer day by day.
It looks like it's going to be an exciting week for Fame Academy Watcher's everywhere!
