Saturday 20th September - Results Show

So who "will" it be?
Like all good cliffhangers, it gets more exciting the longer we have to wait. So now was a good time to find out the result of the BBC 3 Fame Academy songwriting competition. Alistair had already won the last two songwriting trophies, he was hungry to complete his hat-trick. Could he do it? The answer was a resounding yes! Playing guitar, accompanied by James on piano and Alex on vocals, Alistair treated us to what is one of his favourite own compositions, 'Feeling Alive'. Alistair always seems to give a more heartfelt performance when singing his own song, and winning the songwriting competitions seems to have helped him move up in the popularity stakes.
It's also great to see the students supporting each other onstage even when there is a prize at stake.
Just before the voting closed all of the students had a final chance to remind the public of what they can do. A group performance of the motown classic "Dancing in the Street", with each student doing a little solo riff at some stage during the song.
Just when Carolynne was probably feeling quite relaxed, having performed well after a difficult week, in rolls some BBC 3 footage. 'Oh no, they are showing the trip to Manchester, don't show the bus drive home... please!', may well have been one of her thoughts. But of course they did, with all the smoochy shenanigans between herself and Peter in vivid close-up! One has to feel for Peter's girlfriend in the audience, who last week expressed her feelings of humiliation in a phonecall to him, after his kissy-kissy antics at the TV Quick awards. There were over 6000 rapturous fans at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. Their elation seemed to have fanned those flames of passion Peter and Carolynne's way. By morning breakfast however, the fire seemed dampened by their embarrassment. Thankfully the passionate pair had little time to ponder on that one as the closure of the phone lines was announced.
It was the moment of fear in the circle of fear. Who would the public vote to keep in the Academy? First to be saved, it was Alex. Despite never being in the bottom three, Alex breathed a sigh of relief. Who would we save next? Alistair! Arm aloft, Alistair was definitely happy, he joined Alex on the safe-stairs with a hug.
Carolynne, James and Peter were left to the mercy of the teachers. They made their pleas for salvation. The panel was torn, Robin and Carrie elected to save Peter but David and Richard (who had the casting vote) saved Carolynne. "Thank you", mouthed Carolynne to her saviours before looking up to her family in the gods, or maybe just to God!
James and Peter snuggled up to each other for comfort as they awaited their fate in the student vote. Will Alistair vote to save his pal James or will the words of Jonathan Ross during the main programme be rattling around in the student's minds?
Alistair steps up first "Erm, this is incredibly hard… there's not really a lot I can say, except (to James) 'Goodbye'", he announced with a tinge of sadness, as he voted Peter to stay. Alistair and James had already agreed always to vote on performance before friendship. Alex and Carolynne both stepped up and voted in the same way.
James' time in the Academy is finally over. He hugged his fellow students warmly and without a trace of bitterness. Yes, they are bound to miss his moaning but they'll also miss him for his enthusiasm and Welsh humour, oh and his hat. It may have been the end of James's Yellow Brick Road but he will be happy to be back in munchkin land after coming so far in the competition. Jame Fox: "I'm having a laugh!"
With the competition stiffer than ever and Alex, Alistair, Carolynne and Peter all at the top of their game, bet you can't wait for next weeks show already!
