Paris Campbell-Edwards - Music is in my blood!
Date Of Birth: 18th February 1980 |
Soul biker Paris really does have music in his blood. Both of his parents are singers. Paris himself has been concentrating on his singing since he was 15 years old. Lenny Kravitz and Prince have ranked high in his musical influences.
The singer-songwriter says he learned a lot about performance during the final auditions in London, including "They told me not to lick my lips all the time" he laughs. What Carrie also told Paris was "you don't need to think about your voice, your voice is amazing".
Paris has a style that is his own, an acute dress sense, hair that is neatly braided and a studded tongue. He always appears calm and self-assured. Cat Deeley described him as "our coolest customer ever", however Paris confessed "deep inside, I'm very, very nervous" before taking the stage for his audition show number.
Paris sang Aerosmith's "Don't Want To Miss A Thing" for the audition show. His individualism extends to his vocals, he has an enviable high range and a falsetto that could almost crack the TV tube. Carrie was effusive in her praise "you tick every box, you're fantastic!." David agreed, "he stands on the stage and he looks like he belongs there." Robin went even further "You are fantastic, you're an international star, you've got a great voice and you're going to pass with flying colours today".
With all that praise it must have been a heady night for Paris. To cap it all he was voted in by the public. After the show Paris expressed how he felt "…it feels so good, I've been working at this for a long time…".
Paris was the eighth student to be expelled from the Academy (on Saturday 13 September 2003).
