Alex Parks - "I might just surprise you!"

Date Of Birth: 26th July 1984
Star Sign: Leo
From: Cornwall
I might just surprise you!
Alex describes her music as a mixture of Folk, Indie and Rock and her favourite musician is Ani Di Franco. "Cornwall really inspires my music", she says, "because I'm by the sea and it's got a nice vibe to it."
Although she's only 19, she's already won a competition for her singing and fronted a surf-rock band. She writes her own songs and plays guitar.
Alex has a disarming ordinariness about her, however, in the words of her own song she is "not your average kind of girl", she's a girl full of surprises…
This diminutive girl from Mount Hawke in Cornwall first surprised us with her clowning and her juggling.
In her auditions when she sang Christine Aguilera's "Beautiful" to David Grant, you could see the surprise on his face. She had his attention: "There is something about her that just makes her incredibly watchable, she's got angst and vulnerability".
She has a surprisingly cute way of looking at the world. "If someone looks grumpy I try and imagine them with a red nose, that's what got me through the Fame Academy auditions."
Alex had been suffering from tonsilitis, but as she stepped up as the final singer on the final audition show of Fame Academy 2 she surprised us all with an intense and emotional performance of "Beautiful". She described the song to Cat Deeley "…it's a really emotional song, it means a lot to me, I can relate to it, y'know people get too concerned about the way people look and it's what's on the inside that counts."
Just when we'd had enough of surprises, Richard Park gave his verdict and didn't have a bad word to say! "What a great version of Christina Aguilera's hit. I think that was tremendous", he gushed.
The public agreed with Richard, Alex was voted into the Academy. That was no surprise!
Latest News:
Alex is the winner of Fame Academy 2003. She triumphed over Alistair Griffin and Carolynne Good in the final (on Saturday 4th October). Congratulations Alex!
